Pipe Leakage
After you are done with washing, the sink water has to flow down the sink pipe and through the pipe out of the house. Using High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe, gives you the peace of mind. I don’t want to say that if you use HDPE pipe, you will never encounter with any type of problem. But in fact you can minimize the frequency of the problem by using HDPE pipe. Here, we will tell you about fixing your bathroom sink pipe.
Now a days, all sinks are of standard size. Anyway, let’s not go by presumption. If you are not good at guessing size or length, then measure it with a measuring tape. This particular repairing technique can be applied to metal pipes, polyethylene pipes, HDPE pipes etc., an effective and affordable way of solving the problem.
Turnoff the water flow at the main valve. If this does not sound feasible then, turn off the nearest stopper. All we want is to cease the flow of water through the leakage area, so that we can mend the leakage.
Walk into the nearest hardware store and pick a PVC kit that contains the required parts to repair or replace the sink pipe. As the parts are very affordable, you can collect few extra accessories for future replacement.
To remove the old sink drainage pipe, first remove the screws or nuts at the bottom of the sink. This is the place which is connecting to the main drainage. You can take help of adjustable pliers to remove it. There are some pipes that are composed of few small pipes. In that case you will have to open it from the base of the sink and then from the joining part of the main outlet.
After uprooting the drain line between the sink and the main outlet, do not tilt or turn the pipe. Be ready with a bucket to collect the filthy stuff that could pour out after unfastening of the joint, in case of clogging.
Settle the new pipes just like the old one that you have dismantled. You can either replace the entire pipe or a segment only. Assemble the individual sections and reattach the pipe in the reverse order. Starting from the main drain outlet and moving to the base of the sink. Fasten and tighten the nuts and screws. Please remember to avoid over-tightening of the screws and nuts.
Now turn on the stopper and let the water flow through the sink. Instead of letting the water run through the basin drain line, stop the flow and fill the sink with some water. After it gets filled up, let the water gush out. You can instantly notice whether there is any leakage problem. If the problem persists then you can either redo the steps or call a professional plumber.
